As we reflect on the United States of America’s 250th anniversary of signing the Declaration of Independence, we must consider what was provided to us during these times as proof of the American concept, art. Whether it be a beautiful signature, a painting on a wall, a flowing poem, or a song, art has told stories of history for as long as humans have been walking this Earth. We ask that artists, visual, literary, or lyrical, reflect on our local history, as well as what it means to them. The Declaration Exhibition includes work from local artists, artifacts from the Museum of East Alabama, and memorabilia from the Arts Association of East Alabama. This exhibition is in tandem with the City of Opelika's America 250 celebration. It is on view at the Southside Center for the Arts from June 22 to July 10, with a reception celebrating the arts and local history on July 2 from 5:30 to 7 pm.
